Teen charged with murder after confronting man accused of touching five-year-old girl

An 18-year-old woman has been charged with first-degree murder after allegedly shooting a 58-year-old man multiple times in what police describe as a vigilante-style killing following a child’s report of inappropriate touching.

Alishon Torres, 18, is accused of killing Noe Santillan Rincon, 58, in Memphis, Tennessee, weeks after a five-year-old girl reported that Rincon had touched her inappropriately. The allegation involving the child has not been tested in court, but it is central to the events that followed.

Child’s report and rising tensions

According to court documents, a five-year-old girl told family members around three to four weeks before the shooting that Rincon had touched her inappropriately. The report was passed on within the family, and tensions began to build around the allegation.

Police say Torres became aware of the claim and later confronted Rincon. At this stage, there had been no criminal conviction or formal finding against him in relation to the child’s allegation.

Confrontation inside a van

Investigators say Torres arranged to confront Rincon in a van in the Willowview area of Memphis. According to the affidavit, she asked to borrow his phone while they were inside the vehicle.

Once inside, she allegedly produced a gun and opened fire, shooting Rincon multiple times at close range. Court documents state that he was shot around a dozen times, leaving him fatally wounded inside the van.

Attempt to hide the killing

After the shooting, Torres is accused of driving the van away from the scene and taking it to an abandoned house. Police say she then tried to repaint the vehicle in an effort to conceal evidence and distance herself from the killing.

When officers later moved in to arrest her, a handgun reportedly fell from her purse. Investigators allege that this was one of the weapons used in the shooting.

Charges and legal status

Torres has been charged with first-degree murder, employing a firearm during the commission of a dangerous felony and tampering with evidence. She remains accused, not convicted, and the case will proceed through the courts.

Police have described the killing as a deliberate act, not self-defence. The allegation involving the five-year-old girl remains an allegation at this stage and has not been determined by a court.

Vigilante violence and “two lives destroyed”

The case has sparked debate in Memphis and beyond, with many describing it as a disturbing example of vigilante violence: a child’s report, a fatal confrontation and an attempt to cover up the crime.

Supporters of due process have warned against individuals taking the law into their own hands, stressing that allegations of abuse must be handled through proper investigation and the courts, not street justice.

Others have focused on the wider context of fear, anger and mistrust that can surround allegations involving children, and how quickly situations can escalate when people believe the system will not act fast enough.

As the case moves forward, a 58-year-old man is dead, an 18-year-old faces a potential life sentence, and a five-year-old child is at the centre of a tragedy that has torn through multiple lives.

TrueNorth News will continue to follow developments in the case as it progresses through the courts.
