Woman Bailed as Police Continue Church Road Investigation Detectives in Stockton are continuing their investigation into the death of a 74-year-old man after a woman arrested on suspicion of murder was released on conditional bail.
Cleveland Police were called to a property on Church Road in the early hours of Tuesday, March 31, shortly before 7:00 AM. Paramedics rushed to the scene, but sadly the man was pronounced dead at the address.
A 57-year-old woman was arrested in connection with the incident and taken in for questioning. Officers confirmed on Wednesday, April 2, that she has since been released on bail while enquiries remain ongoing.
Forensic Teams on the Scene A police cordon was maintained at the property throughout much of the week, with forensic investigators in protective suits observed entering and exiting the address.
Specially trained officers are currently providing support to the victim’s family during what is described as an incredibly difficult time.
Police Urge Public to Come Forward Detective Chief Inspector Daryll Tomlinson, who leads Cleveland Police’s Homicide and Major Enquiry Team (HMET), is appealing to the public for help.
“The investigation is in its early stages, and we currently have a scene in place while extensive enquiries are underway,” he said, adding that anyone with dashcam or doorbell footage from the area is being asked to come forward.
Local residents have been left shaken by the news.
Neighbours described the victim as a well-liked and quietly spoken member of the community, with one local saying the presence of forensic tents on their street came as a complete shock.
