“He deserved it”: violent neighbour doused pensioner in boiling water

A violent woman threw boiling water over her elderly neighbour as he slept, leaving him with such serious burns he needed a skin graft – then told police he “deserved it”.

Kirsty Louise Graham, from Willington, appeared at Teesside Crown Court after the shocking late‑night attack on a man in his 70s, who woke up in agony and was forced to call 999 himself while she did nothing to help.

Boiling water attack on sleeping pensioner

The court heard the victim had been in bed at his home on 13 February last year when Graham came in and doused him with boiling water. He woke in severe pain, with burns to his shoulder and down his right side.

Despite the extent of his injuries, Graham offered no assistance. The pensioner, struggling to breathe and in shock, had to ring for the emergency services himself.

He later required hospital treatment and a skin graft to repair the damage caused by the scalding water.

Asthma attack and police response

As the pain and shock took hold, the victim suffered an asthma attack. Paramedics and police attended the scene and he was taken to hospital for urgent treatment.

When officers spoke to Graham about what had happened, she showed no remorse and told them the man “deserved it”.

Violence towards police

The court was told that Graham’s aggression did not end with the attack on her neighbour. During the incident she also kicked a police officer, adding to the seriousness of the case.

Prosecutors described her behaviour as violent and callous, highlighting the vulnerability of the victim and the lack of any attempt to help him after the attack.

Court outcome

Graham admitted her role in the incident and was sentenced at Teesside Crown Court. The judge said the attack on a sleeping pensioner with boiling water was a grave breach of trust and left the victim with lasting physical and emotional scars.

The case has been held up as a stark example of how quickly neighbour disputes and personal grudges can escalate into serious violence.
