A young boy is in a serious but stable condition in hospital after reportedly falling from the window of a house on a residential street in Middlesbrough.

Emergency services were called to Palmer Street, in the Gresham area of the town, shortly before 5pm on Thursday, 2 April, following reports that a child had fallen from an upstairs window of a property.

Cleveland Police said paramedics treated the boy at the scene before he was taken by ambulance to James Cook University Hospital , where he remains in a serious but stable condition.

On Friday morning, a police cordon was still in place on Palmer Street near its junction with Diamond Road, with an officer guarding the scene and a police vehicle parked nearby. Detectives were seen going door-to-door as part of their enquiries.

One woman who lives on the street said she became aware of the incident at teatime on Thursday. “I heard that a child had fallen from a window,” she said. “There were police and an ambulance outside. It’s awful, especially when you hear it’s a kid.”

Another resident, who did not wish to be named, said the area was used to seeing emergency services. “No-one really talks around here but there’s always something going on,” he said. “I just saw the police and tape up and wondered what had happened.”

Detective Inspector Rebecca Taylor, from Cleveland Police ’s Protecting Vulnerable People team, confirmed an investigation is under way to establish exactly what happened.
